2017 Spring Retreat

The Wheels are four brief sentences that are the base and the essential summary for all kinds of methods and practices found in Yungdrung Bön. They form the very foundation for the practice and study of Yungdrung Bön.

The text, taken from the “Do Zermig”, are the final words spoken by the Buddha Tonpa Shenrab, founder of the Yungdrung Bon tradition before passing away into nirvana.

Tonpa Shenrab spoke these words to his students:

“All my students should establish the view from high above, practise activities (as if) climbing up from below, take great compassion as the base and practise the ten perfections as the method.  Anyone who has these four is a (true) practitioner (of my doctrine) and will forever be free from the suffering of samsara”

The retreat teachings will include: compassion and Bodhicitta, the Ten Paramitas, and the Ten Negative and Virtuous Actions.  The text also gives clear, logical explanations of how karma works, how to deal with thoughts, and ultimately, how to rest in the nature of our own mind.

The teachings are suitable for those who are just beginning to take an interest in this ancient and authentic spiritual tradition and to those who have already been studying and practising for many years.

GesheLa will share and explain the meaning of each of the four wheels and guide participants in the practice of many of the methods used which will include: meditation on the nature of mind, prostrations, circumambulation, hand mudras and chanting.
